BEA Ships Standards-Based Platform for Policy Enforcement and Telecom Web Services
Posted on: Monday, 25 April 2005, 06:00 CDT
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BEA Systems , a world leader in infrastructure software, today announced the general availability of the BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper(TM), a carrier-grade, standards-based network access management product designed to help communications service providers manage third party content and application providers building new services that access the networks.
BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper helps enable communications service providers to expose telecom capabilities such as call routing, text messaging, and billing systems to software developers so they can build innovative network services. This product is designed to help communications service providers improve quality of service (QoS), increase customer loyalty and more quickly launch new, innovative services
"As the telecommunications market is changing, so are the customer's requirements for services," said Elisabeth Rainge, Program Director at IDC. "But services can't be delivered without rules as to who can access networks and when. BEA Weblogic Network Gatekeeper enables greater levels of control of third party service provider's applications while not hindering the ability to provide value added services to the end user."
Policy enforcement, Telecom Web Services and third party partner relationship management capabilities are at the foundation of BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper. Policy enforcement capabilities provide policy controlled network interfaces that prioritize and route traffic flow in an intelligent and efficient way, helping protect the underlying networks from being overloaded or damaged. Telecom Web are a set of high-level, simple Web Services interfaces, which help enable external parties, enterprises, and the large community of software developers to create new applications and services. Leveraging Telecom Web Services, BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper helps empower traditional Web Services developers to deliver compelling telecom-enabled applications such as messaging, calling, location-based services and billing. Third party partner relationship management capabilities are designed to manage third party partners who may access the network.
BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper Can Bring Important Benefits to Communications Service Providers, Developers and End User Customers
BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper is an important milestone in BEA's history in telecommunications and brings unique business and technology benefits for communications service providers. For communications service providers, the product provides a single point-of-entry into the network to define and enforce policies for accessing key network enablers such as user status, user location, short message service (SMS), multimedia message service (MMS), and can help them manage third party application and content providers by defining and enforcing policy-based Service Level Agreements (SLAs). For application developers, BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper brings Web Services technology to the telecommunications network domain, helping provide new opportunities to profit from the growing demand for third party telecom applications. For end-user customers, BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper facilitates the rapid availability of a wider variety, and higher quality of new services with more flexible pricing models.
Commented Wai Wong, executive vice president, products organization, BEA Systems: "As the telecommunications market continues to expand, communications services providers need to stay competitive by providing a broader portfolio of next-generation services. Reaching out to the broader community of Web and IT developers can help them source new content, applications, and services, and providing access to their networks to third-party application and content providers can facilitate this. BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper, and its policy enforcement, partner relationship management and Telecom Web Services capabilities can help address these customer needs opportunities by helping to enable new business opportunities with a wider community of third party application and content providers."
