Three people have been arrested in Durham County, N.C., in a series of alleged Satanic rituals involving violence, police say.
Police said the most recent arrest was of Diana Palmer, the vice chairwoman of the Durham County Democratic Party, who was allegedly linked to the suspected rituals including a rape, ABC News said Thursday.
Palmer's attorney, Bill Thomas, denied an earlier police report that his client attempted to remove items from the home where the crimes occurred.
Ms. Palmer vehemently denies any association whatsoever with a satanic cult, Thomas said. She further denies any knowledge of a crime being perpetrated by the persons previously arrested.
Suspect Joseph Craig, 25, was arrested last week and accused of kidnapping and beating a man, along with raping a woman as part of the alleged Satanic rituals.
Craig's wife Joy Johnson, a former Durham County Democratic Party vice chairwoman, was also arrested and charged with allegedly assisting in the rape and assault.
ABC News said both victims had met the couple on the Internet and voluntarily went to their home when the crimes occurred sometime between January and June.
