Intellon's HomePlug-R- Powerline Communications Technology to Be Demonstrated at WinHEC 2005

-- HomePlug Powerline Communications Will Link a Thomson Set Top Box and a PC in a WinHEC Demonstration of Next Generation Home Networking Using the Upcoming Microsoft Windows Release Code-named "Longhorn"

Intellon Corporation, the world leader in powerline communications, today announces that they will demonstrate how its HomePlug powerline communications technology can be used with Microsoft Corporation's upcoming Windows release, code-named "Longhorn." The demonstration will be shown during Microsoft corporate vice president of networking, Jawad Khaki's Executive Session at 8:30am on April 26th, and again during a presentation given by Microsoft's Windows engineering and communications team entitled "Network Topology: Connectivity Visualized", at 11:00am on April 27th.

The demonstration will show how a new Microsoft technology called Link Layer Topology Discovery ("LLTD") will automatically detect multiple network devices and indicate, in graphical form, how they are interconnected. This will help identify network bottlenecks, thereby reducing support costs and increasing consumer satisfaction. HomePlug is one of three home networking technologies demonstrated by the new LLTD detection mechanism at WinHEC.

As part of the demonstration at WinHEC, Thomson will be connecting its IP1000 IP set top box platform to a network using Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 technology. When invoked, the Microsoft LLTD technology will display the various components of the active network, identifying the constituent devices in graphical icon form and assisting the user in determining the health of the network.

Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 ICs enable powerline communications at rates up to 14 megabits per second (Mbps) with encryption security, for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), data networking and broadband extension. Intellon recently introduced a new 85Mbps powerline networking chipset, the INT5500CS, which is fully compliant with the HomePlug 1.0 specification. This HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo chipset offers the higher bandwidth performance necessary to drive next-generation home entertainment applications such as standard definition in-home video provisioning, IPTV and whole-house audio distribution. Intellon's highly anticipated, next generation chipset, the INT6000, will use the 200Mbps PHY rate HomePlug AV standard to transmit multiple standard-definition (SD) and high definition (HD) video streams, as well as enabling data and audio applications, over home powerlines.
