Dell, AT&T Wireless Team to Provide Internet Access Through Cellular Networks; Pact Makes Mobile Computing Easy, More Productive in More Places

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 2003--Dell(tm) (Nasdaq:DELL) customers can now manage e-mail, browse the Web or access corporate applications on their Dell notebook computers without worrying about wires or searching for "hot spots" to connect to the Internet.

Through an agreement with AT&T Wireless, Dell will offer variety of AT&T wireless Internet plans based on megabyte usage to meet individual needs. Connecting to the AT&T wireless data service is easy with the tri-band Sierra AirCard 750 Wireless cellular modem which customers may purchase when signing up for a service plan.

"Our customers' time is valuable and we're committed to providing them a variety of options for wireless connectivity, both local and wide area networking," said Anthony Bonadero, director of Dell's wireless product group. "With AT&T Wireless, we can help mobile computer users stay in touch in more places, and be more productive at work or on their own time."

Valerie Kahn, senior vice president of enterprise offers for AT&T Wireless Mobile Multimedia Services, said mobile professionals now have access to one-stop shopping to meet their mobile computing needs. "With the largest worldwide footprint of any carrier in the U.S., customers can stay connected in thousands of cities around the country and across the globe through our high-speed GPRS service," she said.

AT&T Wireless Internet service for GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Services), and the Sierra AirCard 750 modem use existing AT&T cellular networks to provide seamless wide area connectivity within broad coverage areas around the world. GPRS runs at speeds comparable to analog dial-up modems.

AT&T Wireless operates one of the largest GSM/GPRS network in the United States. They have service in thousands of cities around the globe with roaming agreements throughout Canada, Europe and Asia. In contrast, Wi-Fi local area networks require wireless access points or "hot spots" connected to established hard wired networks for Internet access within fixed locations.

Dell customers can choose from a variety of AT&T Wireless plans ranging from 10 megabytes to 100+ megabytes per month with usage fees starting as low as $29.99(a) per month. Dell offers the tri-band Sierra AirCard 750 Wireless GPRS Modem for a retail list price of $299.99 -- with special promotional pricing as low as $224.99 for a limited time with certain restrictions.
