Yipes Enterprise Services Improves Network Reliability With Self-Healing Ethernet

Posted on: Thursday, 28 April 2005, 09:00 CDT

SAN FRANCISCO, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Yipes Enterprise Services, Inc. (http://www.yipes.com/ ), the pioneer in managed, end-to-end Ethernet solutions, is giving customers one less reason to worry about the reliability of their network while providing an advanced service infrastructure supporting today's converged communications.

Yipes Self-Healing Ethernet Network, built on its proprietary technology and Extreme Networks' Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) technology, provides sub-second network recovery on multiple routes to and from each GigaPOP. In the event of an outage, data is automatically rerouted with minimal disruption and sub-second re-convergence, as opposed to traditional Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) schemes which can take up to 60 seconds to re-converge.

"Yipes Self-Healing Ethernet Network dramatically increases service availability and reliability, thus allowing support of VoIP, CRM, ERP, and multicast-based mission critical applications," said Dr. Kamran Sistanizadeh, Yipes co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. "With EAPS, customers not only experience high service availability, they also receive the benefit of cost- effective, flexible and scalable Ethernet services. In addition, EAPS allows network services upgrade and maintenance to be achieved in a 'hitless' transparent fashion for the majority of Enterprise applications."

Traditionally, Ethernet Services have struggled with the industry issue of re-convergence time. With the deployment of the Self-Healing Ethernet Network, Yipes is able to lower re-convergence times to under a second, enabling real-time applications, maintenance and technology additions with a fraction of the down-time. EAPS, in conjunction with Yipes' proprietary technology, delivers a key innovation that dramatically improves network reliability with fewer protocol conversions and less equipment, meaning lower end-to-end latency, jitter and fewer points of failure.

"The global market for Ethernet Services is rapidly expanding and the network stability and reliability offered by EAPS has become a 'must have' element in going beyond customer expectations," said Varun Nagaraj, vice president of product management for Extreme Networks. "Yipes is a recognized pioneer in Ethernet Services, and uniquely suited to effectively bring the many benefits of EAPS to customers in the marketplace."

"Reliability and availability are key criteria for companies deploying global private networks," stated Dr. Peter Fetterolf of Network Strategy Partners. "Yipes Self-Healing Ethernet Network and its implementation of sub-second re-convergence address a fundamental Enterprise network requirement for high availability Ethernet Services."
