Belarusian Interior Ministry Issues Ominous Warning to Internet Cafe Owners
MINSK. July 9 (Interfax) - The owners of Internet cafes in Belarus should remember that they are responsible for the messages posted by their customers, head of the cyber crime department at the Interior Ministry of Belarus Igor Chernenko said.
"The owners of Internet cafes and clubs should remember that nobody has changed the rules that hold them responsible for the messages their customers post," Chernenko said commenting on the detention of a resident of Vitebsk on suspicion of posting information about a possible explosion in Minsk on a dating web site.
The Belarusian Interior Ministry, with the help of its Russian colleagues, identified the individual who posted information on a dating web site about a possible explosion in Minsk, he said.
A 25-year-old resident of the Vitebsk region was detained on suspicion of false reporting of a threat, which is a crime, he said.
"The Belarusian KGB and the Interior Ministry have enough resources to solve such crimes," he said.
"Parents should control the Internet sites their children visit, their messages and what they write in forums," he said.
