KVH Receives $2 Million Order From Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace

KVH Industries, a manufacturer of systems to provide access to live mobile media to telephone and high-speed internet for vehicles, has received a new $2 million order for its precision DSP-3100 fiber optic gyros from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for use in the Protector family of remote weapon stations.

The contract is in addition to a $6 million order received in April 2008 from Kongsberg, and will extend DSP-3100 fiber optic gyros shipments into the early part of 2009. As with the previous order, this contract is subject to the completion of DSP-3100 testing and qualification, which is already underway.

According to the company, Kongsberg's Protector will rely on KVH's new DSP-3100 FOGs to provide precise stabilization and weapon recoil control while ensuring that the weapon stays on target whether the vehicle is stationary or on the move.

Dan Conway, KVH's vice president of business development, said: "KVH's fiber optic gyros are ideally suited for stabilized weapons, such as the Protector family, that provide critical safety and operational benefits for US and allied warfighters. We are grateful for this display of confidence in our FOG technology and look forward to continuing our close collaboration with Kongsberg in the future."
