REDMOND, Wash., July 11, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The MSNBC Digital Network (msnbc.com) continues its impressive growth trend and has reclaimed its position as the number one Current Events and Global News site, attracting more than 37 million unique visitors in June, according to Nielsen Online. The MSNBC Digital Network's increase in unique visitors surpassed the CNN Digital Network by 13 percent and Yahoo! News by eight percent. The surge in unique visitors is a 29 percent increase above MSNBC Digital Network's 2007 average. The MSNBC Digital Network was also number one in total minutes spent on the site in June, topping the CNN Digital Network by eight percent, and Yahoo! News by 42 percent.
MSNBC Digital Network's consistent delivery of award-winning original content and its industry-leading video player played key roles in attracting more consumers. While overall industry growth was flat (down 0.1 percent) during the month, the MSNBC Digital Network grew seven percent, while the CNN Digital Network was up one percent and Yahoo! News dropped two percent.
