Man, 50, is Charged in Robbery of Bank

Jul. 13–Winston-Salem police have made an arrest in the robbery Friday of a branch of First Citizens Bank on University Parkway
Leon Clarence Hundley, 50, was charged with common-law robbery. He was being held last night in the Forsyth County Jail. His bond has been set at $45,000.
About 2:10 p.m. Friday, a man approached a teller at the bank at 6005 University Parkway and demanded money, police said.
The man did not display a weapon and received an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured. He then left in a red Dodge Ram pickup truck with a chrome toolbox behind the cab, traveling east on Hanes Mill Road.
Capt. David Clayton, who is the head of the department’s criminal-investigations division, said that the investigation included checking motel parking lots for a truck fitting that description. Between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. yesterday, Mike Allen, a detective with the division, spotted a truck matching the description backed into a parking slot at the Innkeeper motel on Peters Creek Parkway.
Allen called other detectives and police officers. They talked with Hundley. Based on their conversation and physical evidence that they found in his room, police arrested Hundley, who has been living with relatives in Stokes County but has no known permanent address.
“We are very glad that we have made an arrest in such a short amount of time,” Clayton said.
