Siemens Announces optiPoint WL2 Professional Family of WiFi Telephones, Easily Deployable and Manageable From Any Wireless Data or Voice Network Environment
Posted on: Tuesday, 3 May 2005, 09:00 CDT
Siemens Communications, Inc., today announced its new optiPoint WL2 professional family of 802.11 wireless local area network (LAN) telephones that are deployable and manageable from any wireless data and voice network. The phone family's rich set of features, easy operation and low pricing are designed for both enterprise and home WiFi usage.
The optiPoint WL2 professional family and optiPoint WL2 professional S handsets will be on display May 3-5 at the Networld+Interop 2005 conference in Las Vegas, Siemens Booth 1737. The handsets are Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) compliant to operate on any access point and in any WiFi network environment, including operation with Siemens, non-Siemens and multi-vendor environments.
The new wireless LAN phones, from Siemens, are one of the industry's first to feature an easy-to-read 128x128 pixel color display, along with distinctive polyphonic ringer tones and both wireless LAN and USB interfaces. Standard telephone features include speakerphone, speed dials, desk charger, optiGuide(R) feature navigation and multi-line appearances. The handsets also include Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)-aware programming to work directly with server-based enterprise contact information.
Built as a native 802.11g device and compatible with legacy 802.11b systems, the optiPoint WL2 professional family of phones employs a variety of standards to maximize voice quality, tighten security and improve roaming capabilities. As a SIP-enabled device that can support multiple network protocols and includes enterprise VPN client support, the handsets enable mobile workers to stay connected at the office, at branch locations and at homes with wireless LAN networks.
The optiPoint WL2 professional family of handsets joins the wireless LAN-capable Siemens optiClient(R) softphone for wireless voice connectivity from a laptop computer and the optiPocket(TM) software solution for "always on" PDA support. The new handsets will be available in August.
"Enterprise mobility means that the enterprise can get the right data to the right end user in a format that's easily viewable and shared in real-time," said Andy Mattes, president and CEO of Siemens Communications, Inc., and a keynote speaker, May 5, 9 a.m., at the NetWorld+Interop event. "Because the optiPoint WL2 professional telephones are built with open standards to work in so many different environments, Siemens expects to sell these handsets in high volumes. For customers, this family of phones will likely be available at very low price points."
