Siemens Launches HiPath Wireless LAN Solution, Deployable Over Any Data or VoIP Network
Posted on: Tuesday, 3 May 2005, 09:00 CDT
Siemens Communications, Inc., today announced its new HiPath(R) Wireless portfolio, a centrally deployable and highly flexible 802.11 wireless Local Area Network (LAN) system that works in any enterprise environment and on any existing data network or voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure. The HiPath Wireless system is on display May 3-5 at the NetWorld+Interop 2005 conference in Las Vegas, Siemens Booth 1737.
The Siemens HiPath Wireless portfolio represents a major milestone in the integration and development of open, standards-based wireless network solutions that can be deployed over any existing IP network infrastructure, including interoperability across multi-vendor systems. The solution, supported by a new line of comprehensive HiPath Services offerings, incorporates industry-leading innovations from Chantry Networks Corp. Chantry was acquired by Siemens in January.
"The array of wireless technologies required to fully mobilize an enterprise is vast," said Craig J. Mathias, a principal with Farpoint Group, an Ashland, Mass.-based mobile advisory company. "Siemens has a long history of expertise on local-area and wide-area wireless solutions, as well as a keen understanding of the elements of convergence required to build mission-critical enterprise solutions."
With its converged architecture, the HiPath Wireless solution enables fast and secure roaming across access points throughout an enterprise environment. The system's Layer 3 overlay architecture provides for centralized management and coordination of access points, security and user-based policy rules - creating a platform for highly flexible, cost-effective, scalable and secure deployments. Rapid subnet roaming supports real-time applications like VoIP without the need for re-authentication and re-keying as a user roams.
Virtual wireless subnets are also part of the HiPath Wireless system's architecture, enabling enterprises to dynamically create user access policies for different campus locations and for different classes of users or applications. The HiPath Wireless Controller automatically provisions the right levels of access and quality of service for roaming users.
The new line of comprehensive Siemens HiPath Services offerings, which include flexible packages of lifecycle maintenance, managed and professional services, provide complete support for the HiPath Wireless system. HiPath Services modules provide a range of enterprise support options, from basic repairs to advanced convergence support to help enterprises maximize deployment options and investments.
"Siemens has one of the industry's most robust voice and data portfolios to support an exciting new era of boundary-free enterprise collaboration solutions - from back-end integration to real business process linkages," said Andy Mattes, president and CEO of Siemens Communications, Inc., and a keynote speaker, May 5, 9 a.m., at the NetWorld+Interop event. "HiPath Wireless solutions support the way people work today - within the office, throughout the extended enterprise campus and including branch offices and other remote locations."
