Sun Microsystems Selects Proxima Technology Centauri Business Service Manager to Measure and Report Service Quality for Sun Managed Storage

Posted on: Tuesday, 3 May 2005, 12:00 CDT

Sun Managed Storage Customers Gain Real-Time Insight into Service Quality with Centauri Business Service Manager(TM)

Sun Microsystems and Proxima Technology today announced at Sun's Network Computing '05 Q2 conference that Sun Microsystems has selected Proxima Technology's Centauri Business Service Manager(TM) (Centauri) to measure and report service level agreements (SLA) for their new Sun(SM) Managed Storage Services offering.

Centauri helps provide real-time dashboard views to both Sun Managed Storage Services managers and their customers. The dashboards show the service level performance status and highlight where corrective actions should focus based on business priorities.

"By capturing real-time data and automating the service reporting process, Centauri will help Sun Managed Storage Services guarantee service level agreements, become more agile in meeting client needs and deliver higher quality of service," says Tom Berghoff, Vice President Advanced Services, Sun Microsystems.

"Flexibility and scalability are key strengths of Centauri, specifically when it comes to integrating heterogeneous environments. Moreover, Centauri is closely aligned with the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Sun Sigma, our version of Six Sigma -- both of which are key components of Sun's delivery method," adds Greg Marchwinski, Worldwide Storage Services Practice Manager, Sun Microsystems.

Centauri is a core component of Sun Managed Storage Services offering. Integration is underway with other products, one of which includes Sun Management Connection. Disparate data feeds into Centauri to provide high level dashboard views of service performance with drill-down capabilities for rapid root-cause analysis.

"There are currently a number of Managed Storage opportunities where Centauri is embedded -- and we look forward to working closely with Proxima Technology's team on current and future opportunities," comments Marchwinski.

"Sun Services teams globally have worked with Proxima Technology for a number of years. We are pleased to see that Sun Services have expanded their use of Centauri to include their new Managed Storage Service offering. We expect this relationship to continue to expand our presence globally, helping Sun Microsystems to achieve their goals in delivering quality services to their customers," says Steve Jones, Chief Executive Officer, Proxima Technology.
