Net Optics Introduces Gigabit Port Aggregator Taps; Extension of Net Optics Proven Port Aggregator Tap Family Now Offers Aggregation for GigaBit Networks

Net Optics, the global leader in passive monitoring access for security and network management applications, today announced the launch of a series of Port Aggregator Taps optimized for high-speed performance on both GigaBit Fiber and GigaBit Copper networks. The Net Optics GigaBit Fiber Port Aggregator Tap is an all-optical device designed and tested for superior performance on GigaBit fiber links and is completely passive and transparent to the network. The GigaBit Copper Port Aggregator offers Link Fault Signaling, which gives the devices connected to the Tap critical information about link status. Both Taps are available with either a single or dual monitor ports and they extend the industry-leading benefits of Net Optics aggregation technology to the GigaBit network world.
The field-proven technology found in these new products simplifies aggregation solutions and preserves data integrity with generous buffers on each side of the duplex link. Net Optics' GigaBit Dual Port Aggregator Taps enable any two devices to simultaneously monitor a full-duplex link - using only one NIC per device. Typically, full-duplex monitoring with a network tap requires two NICs (or a dual channel NIC) - one interface for each side of the tapped full-duplex connection. The Gigabit Dual Port Aggregator Tap combines and regenerates the two half-duplex streams, sending all aggregated data out to two separate passive monitoring ports. The significant value delivered by this innovation is the onboard memory, which ensures traffic isn't dropped during traffic bursts.
Net Optics' new GigaBit Port Aggregator Tap is a simple plug-and-play solution that is designed to address the limited connectivity of many monitoring systems and IPS/IDS devices, which often offer only a single channel NIC. Improved traffic visibility can be achieved by adding a second NIC. However, this solution often requires NICs that enable binding and an operating system to configure them. Managers are faced with a tradeoff in flexibility and ease-of-use to achieve the same functionality that Net Optics delivers.
