Intec Convergent Billing Achieves Outstanding Real-Time Performance on Distributed Grid of Sun CoolThreads Servers
Intec Telecom Systems today announced that it has successfully completed an “eco-friendly” performance benchmark of Intec Convergent Billing (Singl.eView(TM) 6.01), its market-leading billing and customer care system, using a grid of Sun SPARC(R) Enterprise Servers with CoolThreads technology running the Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System (OS). The benchmark demonstrated the capability to distribute the award-winning charging, billing and customer care application across multiple low cost Sun Ultra SPARC processors while sustaining outstanding price/performance. This configuration is ideal for telecommunications service providers who wish to significantly reduce their IT infrastructure costs and power requirements.
Intec Convergent Billing offers scalable, leading-edge performance for service providers who wish to provide convergent services, including wireless, wireline and next-generation services. Intec Convergent Billing is already proven to support more than 100 million subscribers for major Tier 1 operators.
“Both price/performance and energy/performance are key requirements for our high-growth customers, many of which are adding millions of new subscribers every year,” said Gary Bunney, Intec’s COO. “This benchmark demonstrates that Intec Convergent Billing can support millions of pre-paid subscribers on a grid of Sun SPARC Enterprise Servers with CoolThreads technology and proves that Intec Convergent Billing scales down for smaller, high growth operators, just as well as it scales up for the largest Tier 1 operations.”
The benchmark was conducted in January 2008 at the Sun(TM) Solution Center located in Manchester, United Kingdom on a grid of five Sun SPARC Enterprise T2000 Servers and Sun SPARC Enterprise T5220 Servers, each with processors running at 1.2 GHz, in a grid configuration with a shared database. The benchmark demonstrated high performance and linear scalability across a range of real-time convergent rating, balance management, on-line transaction processing, charging and billing tasks from a typical large carrier environment.
“This benchmark illustrates that Sun and Intec can help achieve the efficiencies our customers require for their business and their eco responsibility. The configuration is an excellent choice for established and startup service providers concerned with cost efficiencies and environmental impact,” said Darrell Jordan-Smith, vice president, communications and media practice, Sun Microsystems. “Sun is pleased that Intec Convergent Billing on Sun CoolThreads servers is able to manage the demanding workloads and deliver the real-time performance necessary for a modern, converged service provider.”
The test included both on-line and off-line charging. While performing on-line charging (a standard requirement in pre-paid and convergent services), Intec Convergent Billing achieved sustained throughput of 6 million busy hour call attempts (BHCA), using a 5 server grid. The 5 server grid contained active and standby servers for high availability and resilience. The power efficiency of the benchmark demonstrates more than a 30% improvement over traditional single server power consumption, pointing to even lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Intec Convergent Billing.
Intec Convergent Billing is Intec’s market-leading charging, billing and customer care system, relied upon by many of the largest and newest innovative telecommunications service providers worldwide. Its efficient distributed architecture allows service providers to lower their operating cost by supporting all rating, balance management, charging and billing tasks on a power efficient grid platform, serving pre-paid, post-paid and multi-pay customers for all classes of product.
