May 6--WESTFORD, Mass. -- NETSCOUT SYSTEMS SHARES JUMP 20 PERCENT: Shares of NetScout Systems Inc. jumped almost 20 percent yesterday, closing at $4.80, a day after the maker of networking monitoring systems reported solid fiscal fourth-quarter and year-end profits. The company also announced that it had unveiled a new version of its nGenius product, which will offer network performance management for carriers with high-speed optical networks. For the three-month period ending March 31, NetScout reported net income of $610,000 (2 cents a share), reversing a loss of $177,000 (a penny a share) during the comparable year-ago period.
Revenues increased 16 percent, to $22.6 million. NetScout also forecast slightly higher revenue for the current quarter.
MARATHON LANDS KEY PARTNERSHIP: Marathon Technologies Corp. said it has signed a strategic partnership agreement in which Four Points Technology LLC will sell Marathon's FTvirtual Server product line. Financial terms were not disclosed. In a prepared statement, Marathon CEO George Tranos said the deal extends Marathon's presence in the public sector, as Four Points' customer base includes the government and military. Marathon, which recently moved to 295 Foster St. in Littleton from Boxboro, is a private company founded in 1993 that emerged from a 2003 bankruptcy filing last year. It raised $8.8 million in venture capital at the time.
TOUR ANDOVER GETS $10M STATE PACT: The Massachusetts Port Authority has awarded a $10 million contract to Tour Andover Controls to replace and expand portions of electronic surveillance at Logan Airport. Tour Andover will develop so-called "smart cards," or specially designed badges, for Logan officials to gain entry to secured areas of the airport. The company will also implement an automated surveillance system that uses fiber optics and digital video technologies. MassPort said its current system will remain in place until Tour Andover's overhaul is operational. The state said software will be installed in the meantime that will integrate aspects of Tour Andover's technology with the current system.
