LI-Based Cablevision Systems Selling Sprint Wireless Service

Cablevision Systems has begun selling Sprint PCS wireless service at its online stores, though the deal stops short of incorporating wireless into its triple play bundle of video, voice and Internet service.
Under a promotion, Cablevision customers who buy wireless service from Sprint through the Web site, www.optimumstore.com, will get a $70 rebate that can be used toward Cablevision's video, voice or Internet services.
With telecom giants like Verizon Communications poised to roll out video services on Long Island and elsewhere, cable companies are scrambling to add wireless to their bundles to match their rivals. Time Warner Cable already has begun offering Sprint wireless service to its customers.
Telecom analyst Jeff Kagan predicted that Cablevision will be among those adding wireless to their bundles.
Cablevision spokesman Jim Maiella said the company had no immediate plans to add wireless to its bundle, but was open to exploring the possibility.
