VirtualLogix(TM), Inc. today announced that it has joined the Service Availability (SA) Forum(TM), a consortium of industry- leading communications and computing companies working together to develop and publish high-availability and management software interface specifications. As a member of the consortium, VirtualLogix joins leading organizations such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, HP, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Motorola, NEC, Nokia Siemens Network and Nortel Networks to establish new standards for service availability.
“The SA Forum welcomes the expertise that VirtualLogix brings in the areas of virtualization and high availability,” said Asif Naseem, president of the SA Forum. “As communication infrastructures advance, the demand for high-performance virtualization, while maintaining expected levels of high-availability, is becoming a significant requirement for equipment manufacturers. We expect that VirtualLogix’s experience supporting high-availability will benefit the SA Forum as we address the key challenges application developers and network architects face with achieving service availability.”
Networking equipment providers rely on carrier grade redundant systems in order to provide high-availability products and software that support physical hardware-based network equipment system architectures. These approaches to high-availability, however, do not always map effectively to virtual hardware-based network equipment. With VirtualLogix Carrier Grade Virtualization(TM), systems demanding service continuity, security, maintainability and high availability can now maintain these attributes as they adopt multicore architectures in a virtualized environment. By offering Carrier Grade Virtualization and a virtualization-aware HA solution (vHA), VirtualLogix is uniquely positioned to provide the SA Forum with valuable insight related to these enterprise settings.
“The SA Forum is in a position to drive standards that will benefit the industry and speed integration of high-availability techniques into communication infrastructure,” said VirtualLogix CEO Peter Richards. “Our VLX vHA was designed with SA Forum interfaces in mind, which makes our modular solution easy to adopt by companies interested in applying virtualization to their existing high- availability solutions. We look forward to further collaboration with the SA Forum as a working group member to continue driving innovation by enabling high-availability assurances for communications equipment.”
The SA Forum was formed to foster an ecosystem that uses commercial off-the-shelf building blocks in the creation of high- availability network infrastructure products, systems and services. By standardizing the interfaces for systems requiring to implement high levels of service availability, the SA Forum aims to help drive to a new open world for service availability. Working with companies such as VirtualLogix, the SA Forum is accommodating the growth of emerging technologies such as virtualization while maintaining uninterrupted availability and dependability.
