Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation today announced that as of the date of this release, the PRIMERGY(R) TX300 S4 server has delivered the best price/performance in a benchmark developed by TPC. The PRIMERGY TX300 S4 server has also achieved top performance for a dual-processor system in the same test. Complete results are available at http://www.tpc.org/tpce/tpce_price_perf_results.asp. The full disclosure report is available at http://www.tpc.org/results/FDR/tpce/fujitsu-siemens.TX300S4.080530.02.fdr.pdf.

Powered by two Intel Xeon X5460 Quad-Core processors, the PRIMERGY TX300 S4 server achieved a tpsE (transactions per second) of 317.45 and a price/tpsE of US $523.49 using the TPC Benchmark(TM) E developed to simulate a modern OLTP system supporting a brokerage firm.

“Fujitsu offers a wide range of computing solutions to meet every IT challenge and budget, and our goal is to provide our customers with the best price/performance in the industry for each solution,” said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of marketing for Fujitsu Computer Systems. “As the TPC-E benchmark indicates, the PRIMERGY TX300 S4 server meets this goal, making it the most cost-effective platform for even the most demanding database systems and online transaction processing environments.”

Tests were carried out in Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ benchmarking laboratories in Paderborn, Germany, under certified TPC conditions. The tested system was a PRIMERGY TX300 S4 server with 2 processors, 8 cores, and 8 threads running Microsoft(R) Windows Server(R) 2008 Enterprise x64 Edition and Microsoft SQL Server(TM) 2008 Enterprise x64 Edition, with 64GB RAM, and 188 SAS 3Gb/s 73GB hard drives. The system price of US $166,181 is available through August 30, 2008.

About TPC-E

TPC Benchmark E (TPC-E) is a new On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) workload developed by the Transaction Processing Performance Council. The TPC-E benchmark simulates the OLTP workload of a brokerage firm. The focus of the benchmark is the central database that executes transactions related to the firm’s customer accounts. Although the underlying business model of TPC-E is a brokerage firm, the database schema, data population, transactions, and implementation rules have been designed to be broadly representative of modern OLTP systems.
