"Over the past few years, BigBand Networks has become an important strategic partner for Wave Broadband, and its infrastructure equipment has become integral to our network's delivery of all media and services," said Steven Weed, chief executive officer for Wave Broadband. "Expanding our relationship leverages Cuda and FastFlow capabilities for Wave Broadband offerings of VoIP and high-speed data services benefiting from similar efficiencies, robustness and management control that we experience through our digital video deployments with BigBand Networks."
Previously, Wave Broadband rolled out HDTV on the BigBand BMR(R) (Broadband Multimedia-Service Router). The operator subsequently selected the BME50(TM) (Broadband Multimedia-Service Edge) to launch video-on-demand by Gigabit Ethernet networking.
"Through extensive work with BigBand Networks, Wave Broadband has successfully evolved its offerings to achieve coveted triple-play positioning spanning video, voice and data services," said Pirjo Tuomi, senior vice president of worldwide sales for BigBand Networks. "Wave Broadband continually demonstrates its commitment to providing subscribers with the most sophisticated offerings over the most advanced plant, and BigBand Networks looks forward to ongoing innovations together."
The BigBand Cuda12000 is a DOCSIS 2.0-qualified, high-capacity platform designed to optimize performance of IP multimedia services at fast connectivity. These include robust two-way signaling in accordance with DOCSIS 2.0, PacketCable-based quality-of-service, high reliability through the MeshFlow(TM) platform architecture that assures resource availability, and optimizing RF (radio frequency) performance of signals to overcome plant impairments. These capabilities are particularly beneficial for robust delivery of real-time services like VoIP and DOCSIS video, integrated with high-speed data services.
BigBand FastFlow BPM provisions services to cable modems, set-top boxes and other residential DOCSIS devices, ensuring that security and quality-of- service requirements are fulfilled. This enables delivery of highly differentiated services such as tiered high speed data, VoIP, bandwidth on demand, and DOCSIS video.
