Optical Solutions' GPON System Selected By Idaho Co-Op

Posted on: Tuesday, 10 May 2005, 12:00 CDT

GPON leader Optical Solutions Inc. today announced that Project Mutual Telephone Co-op (PMT) has selected the FiberPath 500 FTTP system to deliver voice, video and data services to Twin Falls, Idaho, (pop. 38,000). PMT is a full-service telephone, data and cable TV service provider based in Rupert, Idaho. PMT began service in 1916 with 34 telephone customers. Today PMT serves over 12,000 customers in the Magic Valley with telephone, high-speed Internet and cable TV services.

"The Magic Valley region of Idaho needs advanced communications services to stay connected and competitive," said Mike Walsh, PMT central office manager. "Optical Solutions' FiberPath system provides us with a cost-effective solution for delivering innovative services, such as high-speed symmetrical data and IPTV. Recently we used the FiberPath system to deploy telephone, IPTV and data services to the College of Southern Idaho, the canyon rim residential area and the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls."

The FiberPath 500 system is GPON standards compliant and offers superior bandwidth -- 1.2 Gbps downstream and 622 Mbps upstream -- for delivering bandwidth-consuming services such as Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) and symmetrical high-speed data services. GPON-based products also provide important Quality of Service (QoS) features that Ethernet PON systems can not offer.

"We are very pleased that Project Mutual Telephone has selected Optical Solutions as their fiber access partner," said Mike Dagenais, president and CEO of Optical Solutions. "PMT recognizes the importance of quality voice, video and data services and understands how our system's unique Layer 3-driven QoS helps them deliver crystal clear audio and video services."
