Azienda Bergamasca Multiservizi Information and Communication Technology has selected Foundry Networks, a provider of switching and routing solutions, to engineer a next-generation carrier-grade MPLS wide area network for the Province of Bergamo in northern Italy.
The Bergamo advanced broadband network is comprised of more than 250 miles of fiber optics. The Foundry Networks-based IP multi protocol lambda switching (MPLS) network implemented by BT Italia and it is configured to manage data transfer speed from 10Gbps on a single line to 100Gbps on a trunked connection.
According to Foundry Networks, its solution is based on the NetIron MLX Series metro router platform: these multi-service routers will also be used by Azienda Bergamasca Multiservizi Information and Communication Technology (ABM ICT) for its Network Operations Center to monitor reliability and performance of the entire broadband network.
Laura Capodicasa, managing director of ABM ICT, said: "Because we require stringent levels of service quality to deliver advanced triple-play services throughout the region, we needed a solution that was not only cost-effective reliable, but also efficient from an operational expenditure point-of-view and delivered the highest performance available. Foundry Networks was the only networking provider that could address all our needs."
