Sun Microsystems has launched the Sun Web Stack, a fully supported and integrated enterprise-quality AMP stack for Solaris and Linux operating systems.
The Web Stack software includes the open source, standards-based software most commonly used for Web-tier application development and services.
Sun has also announced that it will open source the core components of the Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 and Sun Java System Web Proxy technologies under a Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) license in the Web Stack sub-project of the OpenSolaris community. The Web and Proxy source code will be available in CY08Q3.
The company said the Web stack consists of Web and proxy servers, scripting languages and a database that enables developers to deploy Web applications quickly and easily.
