DALLAS, May 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Texas Instruments (TI) DLP Cinema(TM) technology, the digital cinema projection technology deployed in movie theatres worldwide, today announced its involvement in shaping the "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" universe and its global support at the upcoming premieres and charity screenings.
Director George Lucas and Producer Rick McCallum relied upon a DLP Cinema(TM) projector to view dailies during production, make color corrections in post, and accurately capture the movie's dark side with rich color, high contrast and incredible sharpness. "Our collaboration with Texas Instruments and its DLP Cinema products has served us well since the digital premiere of 'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace' in 1999," said Rick McCallum, producer, "Star Wars: Episode III.""Digital cinema projection is a vital part of the moviemaking process since it reduces production time and consistently delivers our desired vision to the screen."
"TI, through its DLP products group is proud to have served as the digital projection partner for George Lucas, Rick McCallum and the 'Star Wars' team for the last decade," said Doug Darrow, Brand and Marketing Manager, DLP Products at Texas Instruments. "We look forward to continuing this relationship; as well as providing 'Star Wars' fans with the best possible theatrical presentation -- with true color reproduction, unmatched clarity, and consistent picture quality that DLP Cinema technology delivers."
The proceeds from the premiere screenings utilizing DLP Cinema(TM) technology on May 12 will benefit three charities:
* Los Angeles - The Los Angeles benefit premiere will assist Artists for
a New South Africa (ANSA), a non-profit organization working in the US
and South Africa to combat HIV/AIDS, advance civil and voting rights,
and educate and empower youth.
* New York - The New York benefit premiere will donate to The Children's
Health Fund, which provides care to medically underserved children in
some of the nation's most impoverished rural and urban communities.
* San Francisco - The San Francisco premiere will benefit Koret Family
House, which provides free, temporary housing for children with life
threatening illnesses and their families during treatment at UCSF
Children's Hospital.
In addition to the U.S. premieres, DLP Cinema(TM) projectors are supporting the premieres in Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Singapore and Zurich. In addition, a Barco DLP100 DLP Cinema(TM) projector will be utilized at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15 for a special presentation and discussion of "Star Wars: Episode III."
