Midwest Airlines Warns E-Mail Users to Be Wary of Phony E-Mails

MILWAUKEE, July 25 /PRNewswire/ — Midwest Airlines today warned e-mail users that a phony e-mail ticket confirmation is being sent out under the company’s name.

The sample e-mails Midwest has received thank the recipient for using the airline’s “Buy flight ticket Online” service, provide an account login and password, and indicate a credit card charge. They include an attachment called “E-ticket.” The e-mails also contain spelling and grammar errors.

The e-mails are not originating from Midwest, according to airline officials. Actual e-mails from the company are the result of customer-initiated ticket purchases and contain information the customer will recognize.

Recipients are urged to delete the e-mail without opening the attachment and to check their credit card to make sure it has not been charged.

Midwest said that its Corporate Security and Information Technology departments are aggressively investigating the source of the phony e-mails.
