New Social Media Conference in September

Jul. 26--Several local agencies will sponsor a conference for businesses interested in social media marketing.

The first Social Media Conference NW will be Sept. 10-11 at Whatcom Community College.

Featured speakers will focus presentations for small- to medium-size businesses about how they can benefit and generate revenue from social media marketing, which includes a broad range of applications, from Facebook and MySpace to other Internet forums, including blogs, music sharing, podcasting and vodcasting.

Along with WCC, the event will be hosted by Western Washington University's Small Business Development Center and the Technology Alliance Group. Twenty-seven sessions will include presentations, discussions and hands-on examples.

"Speakers will be presenting on a wide range of topics pertaining to social media marketing, with sessions for beginners to more advanced professionals," said SBDC Director Tom Dorr, in a press release. "From Apple to Zoodango, we have speakers from some of the leading social-media marketers."

James Sun, CEO and founder of the Seattle-based social networking site Zoodango.com, will be the opening keynote speaker.

Topics will include: Whether businesses should blog, social media marketing strategies and building online communities that matter to a company.
