Speakerheart Artist Damien Horne to Perform Benefit Concert for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Family in Need

Posted on: Wednesday, 30 July 2008, 09:00 CDT

To benefit a Charlotte, N.C., family in need, Speakerheart(TM) artist and Hickory, N.C., native Damien Horne will perform a free benefit concert tonight featuring songs from his hit album "Somebody's Hero." All concession proceeds will benefit the King family, whose story will be featured in an upcoming episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

"I am beyond excited to help out the King family," said Horne. "I know exactly what it feels like to fall on hard times and I remember how the love and kindness of others helped get me through my darkest hours. I'm honored to help raise funds and bring awareness to this family's situation the best way I know how - through music."

Horne was raised in Hickory, N.C., by a single mother and is one of 12 children. He began his musical journey at age 11, singing in his local Salvation Army Church, competing in local talent shows and performing in a traveling production of "Godspell." After high school graduation Horne followed his musical dreams to Hollywood, where he soon found himself homeless. Rescued from the streets by The Covenant House, a year and a half later he found himself back in North Carolina, this time with a band, Stellar Tree.

Eventually Horne and his band relocated to Nashville where MuzikMafia co-founder John Rich discovered Horne and recruited him to join the MuzikMafia team. Horne's latest album was produced by MuzikMafia's other co-founder, Big Kenny, and for a limited time fans can download "Somebody's Hero" for free at Speakerheart.com.

"I like the way he sings, I like his style, I like his uniqueness, I like his songwriting," said Big Kenny. "He just is a person of never-ending talent. He's one of those people who God just hit him real good with the talent stick and I mean it just wiggled all through him."

For those in the Charlotte area, the concert for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will take place tonight from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST at Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall. Admission is free and all concession proceeds will benefit the King family.
