Microsoft launches enhanced desktop search
LOS ANGELES, May 16 (Xinhua) - Microsoft Corp. on Monday launched its final edition of desktop search software with free enhancements for Windows 2000 and XP customers.
The desktop search came as part of the new MSN Search Toolbar from the MSN network of Internet services owned and operated by Microsoft.
The enhancements will make it easier than ever to find and retrieve documents, e-mail, images, video and more on their Windows- based personal computers, Microsoft said.
"By offering the most integrated desktop search capabilities for Windows, now people can search their PC as fast as they can search the Web," said Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president for the MSN Information Services and Merchant Platform division at Microsoft.
Microsoft said new features of its free desktop search software include fast, precise retrieval of desktop files; one-step searches and familiar interfaces; useful, actionable results and customization.
The MSN Search Toolbar, available for free download today at http://desktop.msn.com, searches over 200 file types on the PC, including e-mail; Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents; MP3, GIF and PDF files as well as Web pages.
Google and Yahoo also provide desktop search software in addition to their web search services.
