New Era in New York Radio
Salem Communications announced that WWDJ (970AM) is no more. At 12 midnight, WWDJ began playing Frank Sinatra to honor Old Blue Eyes and to let New York know that the radio landscape is about to change! The legacy call letters are going away, the identity will be new, and the content will be fresh.
“AM 970 is now broadcasting at 50,000 daytime watts and Team 970 is ready to compete in the greatest city in the world,” announced AM 970′s General Manager Sean O’Neill. “Now more listeners in New York City and the tri-state area will be able to hear compelling programming that only AM 970 offers.”
Peter Thiele, Program Director, commented, “Broadcasting at the daytime power limit of 50 thousand watts and reaching nearly 16 million people, we plan to invade the New York marketplace with a new alternative for listeners and advertisers. Wednesday morning the final countdown will commence to introduce ourselves to New York. This event will change Big Apple radio the way we know it.”
