Aug. 4–United Way of Southern Kentucky is making many of the region’s services available at the click of a mouse.

The agency released the second edition of its health and human services directory online Friday.

Available at the United Way’s Web site at www.uwsk.org, the directory includes 217 pages of listings for services in Warren, Allen, Barren, Logan and Simpson counties. The directory is divided into five separate online documents listing agencies by county.

“This is an updated edition of what we have been doing,” said Doug Eberhart, president and CEO of United Way of Southern Kentucky. “About 70 percent of the people in the area we serve have access to the Internet, so this directory is important for people who want to know what resources are available.”

The first edition of the directory was posted online two years ago, and the updated version was compiled over a six-month period by United Way staff members and an intern.

The directory lists local, regional, state and national health and human services providers serving the five-county region, containing information about providers in the fields of child abuse, child care, disaster services, education, family violence, health care, literacy, mental health and counseling, poverty, recreation, self-sufficiency, senior services, sexual assault, substance abuse, support groups, youth development and numerous related hotline numbers.

Directory listings tend to give the service provider’s address, contact information, operating hours, a description of services and necessary fees and eligibility requirements.

The directory is accessed from the agency’s home page through the community resources link.

Eberhart said many agencies listed in the directory have been grateful for an online resource that can direct more clients to necessary services.

“Human resource managers love it,” Eberhart said.
