Commissioners OK Easement Purchase
By Bob Gibbins, Tahlequah Daily Press, Okla.
Aug. 5–Cherokee County commissioners voted unanimously Monday to approve the purchase of easements from a pair of property owners for a District 3 bridge project.
District 3 Commissioner Mike Ballard, the board chairman, said the easements are needed for the Ross Cemetery Bridge. One is being purchased from Berry Properties for $2,000, and the other is from Otis and Virginia Hoffman for $6,000.
Approval was given for a resolution to place ton limit signs on bridges on South 410 Road. District 2 Commissioner Bobby Botts said a semi-truck has been damaging the road and has already damaged State Highway 80. Botts said drivers must try to maneuver around holes in S.H. 80 due to the truck.
The signs will place a 13-ton limit on the road and authorize the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to write citations for trucks hauling 65,000 to 75,000 pounds across the road.
Commissioners also approved payment of 2007-’08 invoices for District 1 and the sheriff’s office.
The board approved agreements to work on private property with Nadine Cole and Vera Vaughn in District 1. District 1 Commissioner Doug Hubbard said Cole and Vaughn have a clay gravel pit.
Contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services were approved as requested by Cindy Farmer, local juvenile drug court coordinator. Farmer said she would like the program set up the same as the previous year, where she pays her own taxes and insurance. The contracts are for $39,000.
A Dell computer was approved for being removed from the county assessor’s inventory. Assessor Erlene Luper said the computer had heat damage.
What’s next
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will be Monday, Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. in the second-floor conference room at the Cherokee County Courthouse.
