Universal Mind Partners With the Ogden, Utah Police on SpatialKey: To Fight Crime and Manage Budgets
Universal Mind Inc., today announced that the Ogden, Utah Police Department has deployed the first beta release of SpatialKey for Law Enforcement, the company’s innovative Web-based law enforcement dashboard. Universal Mind developed the program using Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology designed by Adobe, to create the SpatialKey platform, a powerful management, visual analysis and reporting tool that enables the Ogden PD to interact with, and analyze information from, the agency’s Versaterm RMS / CAD System, their ESRI GIS system, and other data sources.
SpatialKey was developed in collaboration with the Ogden Police Department and ESRI using an innovative user interface concept to create a cross-agency tool. Anyone who knows how to use a mouse is able to view, analyze, map and create CompStat-style reports using hundreds of thousands of current or historical records in a matter of seconds. Knowledge of records management, database report writing or GIS applications are not required. Command staff, special units, task forces, analysts and patrol operations can create powerful analytics by moving between different view-points such as time period, jurisdiction and patrol area or crime type in any order. Compelling reports can be created in seconds to support presentations to the community on services delivered and budget requirements, analysis that reduces patrol costs, and mission specific analysis for special units and task forces.
“Agencies don’t suffer from lack of information, they lack an effective means to use it,” said Tom Link, Universal Mind’s chief technology officer. “SpatialKey’s value is providing a low cost, easy to use means of accessing information previously stored behind impossible to access user interfaces and difficult to integrate data sources. These include RMS / CAD and data systems, GIS tools that agencies have paid hundreds to millions of dollars for as well as spreadsheets compiled by specific units. SpatialKey creates tremendous value for law enforcement by enabling anyone to map and work with multiple data sources using interfaces tailored to their individual roles and needs.”
“We chose SpatialKey after extensive competitive evaluations because it creates significant opportunities to maximize law enforcement potential,” said Jon J. Greiner, Chief of Police, Ogden, Utah. “SpatialKey paints a more accurate picture of the trends and patterns in our community and our operations than any other product on the market. Universal Mind has delivered what other vendors only promised, a tool anyone in the organization can use to instantly assess, report and act on information critical to our mission and community.”
Built using Universal Mind’s vast experience in the development of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), SpatialKey is a framework for viewing, working with, and reporting on information based on a map location and time. SpatialKey is delivered as a rich browser-based application over a computer network either behind an organization’s firewall or securely extended via the Internet. There is no desktop software to install or maintain. Any computer with a network connection and Adobe Flash 9 Copyright player can run the application.
