August 11, 2008

Alltel Wireless has expanded its wireless broadband network in Phoenix, Arizona, with the launch of evolution data optimized Revision A technology throughout the metropolitan region.

Alltel said that the evolution data optimized (EVDO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology enables customers to upload files five to 10 times faster than before.

According to the company, the coverage area is bounded by Scottsdale on the northeast, Chandler and Gilbert on the southeast, Avondale in the southwest and Peoria and Happy Valley in the northwest. Parts of Flagstaff and Prescott are covered as well.

Customers using Rev. A technology will experience average upload speeds of 500-800Kbps with bursts up to 1.8Mbps, said Alltel. Upload speeds on the company’s existing broadband network average 50-70Kbps, with bursts up to 144Kbps.

The company said that Rev. A download speeds average 600Kbps to 1.4Mbps, with bursts up to 3.1Mbps. By comparison, downloads on the existing broadband network average 400-700Kbps with bursts up to 2.4Mbps.

Terri Larson, vice president of business solutions for Alltel in Arizona, said: “Alltel Wireless is committed to bringing our customers the fast wireless broadband service they expect in their business and personal lives. This network upgrade will give our customers secure, reliable access to the latest wireless technology.”
