NEC to Raise PC Prices for 1st Time in 6 Yrs
Tokyo, Aug. 11 (Jiji Press)–NEC Corp. plans to raise the prices of its personal computers for the first time in about six years due to rising material prices, it was learned Monday.
The company’s first PC price hike since May 2002 will apply to new models to be launched around September in Japan. It is expected to make a final decision soon.
Profitability of NEC’s PC business is worsening due to the rising cost of raw materials such as plastic and steel as well as higher labor costs at its assembly plant in China.END
