Latest AOTMP Research on Network Performance Management Reveals the Network is Not Down

AOTMP announced today the availability of its latest research report on enterprise telecom and IT management. "Network Performance Management: The Network is Not Down" explores the planning, measuring, and optimization of enterprise networks to ensure they carry traffic with the speed, reliability, and capacity appropriate for the applications and cost constraints of an enterprise.

"Our latest research report continues an initiative we began with wireless mobility management in effort to address areas that complement our core telecom audience," said Tim Lybrook, AOTMP President and CEO. "Enterprises are experiencing an increasing overlap in management activities of telecom, wireless, and network performance, so it's important our efforts evolve to meet their needs as well."

Management of network performance is receiving increasing attention as enterprises are being squeezed by calls for more bandwidth and demands to cut costs. The research report reveals while 73% of enterprises expect bandwidth needs to grow over the next year, 61% of enterprises that struggle with creating a business justification for network performance management cite cost reduction as their top program objective.

"Enterprises seeking to improve network performance should develop a technology road map for evaluating the merits of technology such as WAN Emulation, Internet Protocol Address Management (IPAM), WAN Optimization, Network Monitoring, VoIP management, and security solutions," stated Joe Basili, AOTMP Vice President of Research. "The report illustrates that elite performers in enterprise network performance management have distinguished themselves in five core best practice categories: people, process, data management, technology, and reporting. This group has separated themselves from the rest of the pack by minimizing network downtime and reducing variability for the mean time to resolve network issues. They leverage technology, sound business processes, and people to achieve better results."

The research supporting the report sought to understand how elite performers achieve better results. Recommendations and considerations for improving performance are outlined in the report. In addition to the information on trends, the report also provides AOTMP standards and best practices for network performance management.

The report includes data from 218 enterprises which participated in the online survey. The unabridged report is currently available to the public at no cost through the underwriting of BlueCat Networks ( and NetQoS ( The complimentary report is available at:
