Gang in Raid

AN ARMED raider threatened newsagent staff with a hammer.
The masked robber was part of a gang of five men who targeted Church Street News in Houghton-le-Spring on Sunday.
Four men waited outside the shop on Church Street while one armed with a hammer burst into the shop demanding money and cigarettes.
He fled empty-handed and left the male member of staff shaken, but uninjured after the attempted robbery at around 7.30am.
Police are appealing for witnesses to call them on 03456 043 043.
