Dataram First to Double Memory Capacities of Sun Fire V490 and V890 Servers; 8GB Upgrade Expands Sun CPU/Memory Modules to 32GB

Posted on: Thursday, 26 May 2005, 12:00 CDT

Dataram Corporation (NASDAQ: DRAM), a leading provider of server and workstation memory, today announced that it has successfully doubled the maximum memory capacity of Sun Microsystems' Sun Fire V490 and V890 servers. Customers can now achieve 32GB of memory on a CPU/Memory Module with Dataram's DRS880/8192.

"Dataram's memory options are designed to deliver more power and value," stated Lars Marcher, president of Dataram. "Dataram's 8GB upgrade allows customers to expand memory capacity without being forced to add costly and unneeded processors or having to trade-up to a more expensive server."

The Sun Fire V490 and V890 servers are part of Sun's UltraSPARC IV Midrange Server family and memory for both resides on one or more CPU/Memory Modules, each containing two UltraSPARC IV processors and sixteen DIMM slots.

The V490 features one or two CPU/Memory Modules, providing two or four processors and up to 64GB of memory with Dataram's DRS880/8192, twice the maximum capacity offered by Sun. The V890 features one to four CPU/Memory Modules, providing two to eight processors and up to 128GB of memory with Dataram's 8GB upgrade versus a maximum capacity of 64GB with Sun.

Both servers are targeted at applications such as database, business processing, IT infrastructure, application development and scientific engineering collaboration.
