Supermicro Launches Dual-Core Product Line Based on Intel(R) 955X & 945G/P Chipsets at Computex 2005

Posted on: Thursday, 26 May 2005, 12:00 CDT

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Supermicro Computer today announced the launch of their first Intel dual-core products, which will be showcased in Hall 1, Booths B1131-B1137 at Computex 2005 in Taipei, Taiwan from May 31 thru June 4th. Featuring an Intel dual-core processor, these optimized solutions provide a substantial performance boost to help meet and exceed customers' ever expanding performance requirements.

"The introduction of Intel dual-core processors into the marketplace is an important milestone for the entire computer industry," says Charles Liang, President and CEO of Supermicro. "Based on this technology, Supermicro's new optimized dual-core solutions provide customers with the performance and responsiveness needed to realize the full potential of their applications."

With extreme performance capabilities to power high-end digital content creation, Supermicro's SUPER(R) PDSG4 and SUPER(R) PDSGE motherboards are the world's first dual-core Pentium solutions that support PCI-X 133/100 expansion cards. Based on the Intel(R) 955X (Glenwood) chipset, these lead-free workstation boards leverage the Intel(R) Pentium(R) Processor Extreme Edition with Hyper-Threading and now with dual-core processing running at up to 3.2 GHz per core and 1MB of Level 2 cache per core. With support for up to 8GB of faster (667/533) dual-channel DDR-2 memory, state-of-the-art PCI-Express x16 graphics cards and onboard audio, the SUPER(R) PDSG4/E provides outstanding flexibility and performance for robust content creation and multimedia authoring. In addition, the SUPER(R) PDSG4 features U320 SCSI with host RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 support to maximize storage reliability and performance.

Optimized for the new Intel(R) Pentium(R) D Processor featuring two processing cores, the SUPER(R) PDSLA and SUPER(R) PDSLE motherboards deliver enhanced multi-user and multi-tasking performance. The SUPER(R) PDSLA is based on the Intel(R) 945G Express (Lakeport) chipset and features integrated graphics, while the SUPER(R) PDSLE is based on the Intel(R) 945P Express chipset. Both boards leverage DDR2 667/533MHz memory and support top-of-the- line PCI-Express x16 expansion cards, while the onboard PCI-Express gigabit LAN offers maximum I/O throughput and networking connectivity. Intel dual-core products include two full execution cores on a single die to enable simultaneous handling of programs' activities. Dual-core processors can outperform single-core chips at slower clock speeds, which reduces power consumption and heat dissipation. The performance advantage is especially clear on systems that run multiple applications at the same time.

SUPER(R) PDSG4/E

Based on the Intel(R) 955X chipset, this high-performance ATX form factor (12" x 9.5") board supports one Intel(R) Pentium(R) Processor Extreme Edition featuring two processing cores with a 1066/800/533 MHz system bus, 8GB ECC unbuffered DDR2-667/533/400 SDRAM, a user Over-Clock feature in the system BIOS, PCI-Express x16/x1, 3 32-bit PCI, 2 PCI-X 133/100, 4 SATA ports (3 Gbps), RAID 0, 1, 10 and 5, 8 USB 2.0 ports, onboard AC97 audio (front header), single PCI-Express Gigabit LAN, and U320 single-channel SCSI (PDSG4 only). These RoHS-compliant boards are also lead-free and optimized for Supermicro's SC733T-645 and SC733i-645 mid-tower chassis.

SUPER(R) PDSLA/E

Based on the Intel(R) 945G/P Express chipset, this mainstream ATX form factor (12" x 9.5") board supports one Intel(R) Pentium(R) D Processor featuring two processing cores with a 1066/800/533 MHz system bus, 4GB unbuffered DDR2-667/533/400 SDRAM, a user Over-Clock feature in the system BIOS, PCI-Express 1x16/2x1, 4 32-bit PCI, 4 SATA ports (3 Gbps), 8 USB 2.0 ports, onboard AC97 audio (front header), single PCI-Express Gigabit LAN, and Integrated Gfx Graphics (PDSLA only). These lead-free boards meet RoHS requirements and are optimized for Supermicro's SC733T-645 and SC733i-645 mid- tower chassis.
