Orb to Support Intel’s Remote Wake Technology

August 14, 2008

EMERYVILLE, Calif., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ — Orb Networks (http://www.orb.com/) today announced it has collaborated with Intel to update its award-winning media access service to work with Intel’s(R) Remote Wake technology. Orb’s support for this new functionality enables consumers to “wake up” their home PC from energy-efficient sleep mode to access all their media, anytime, from any internet-connected device. Select Intel motherboards with support for Intel Remote Wake technology will be available next month.

Orb Networks, the place-shifting and media access leader, enables users to enjoy all the media that’s on their PCs — music, photos, videos even live TV (with a tuner card) — while they are away. The new Intel Remote Wake technology enables Orb users to put their PC into sleep mode, and “wake it up” with the same simple login and password they use to access their Orb account. Because Orb streams content over the internet, it eliminates the need to synch their media ahead of time. With the ability to remotely wake their PC, Orb users can enjoy whatever they want, whenever they want it, even if they did not leave their computer turned on.

“The ‘remote wake’ feature on the new Intel chipsets enable the last piece of media freedom for people who want to enjoy their media while they are away from home,” said Herve Utheza, VP and GM of Orb Networks. “With Orb, OEMs, system integrators, and white box manufacturers can easily put together differentiated configurations that meet the needs of today’s media-savvy consumers, while leveraging a robust and proven application that is energy efficient.”

“Intel was eager to collaborate with Orb Networks on incorporating support for Intel Remote Wake technology,” said Joe Van De Water, Director of Consumer Product Marketing at Intel. “We believe Orb users are going to embrace these energy-saving features, and actually extend their media consumption into new areas. With the ability to keep their home PC in sleep mode until they actually need it, people are bound to want access to their photos, videos and music literally anytime, anywhere.”
