IDT Delivers Robust Clocking Solutions for Next-Generation Desktop and Notebook Platforms From Intel

Posted on: Thursday, 26 May 2005, 15:00 CDT

Building on its rapid growth in the PC clock market, IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) (Nasdaq:IDTI) today announced the availability of new PC clock devices that support Intel's next-generation notebook and desktop PC platforms. For next-generation Intel(R) Centrino(TM) mobile technology-based laptops, a new chipset (code-named "Calistoga") will be released, for which IDT has released a new series of single-chip, four-PLL (phase-locked loop) PC clock devices that enable the independent control of key clock circuits within the system, resulting in greater flexibility and increased system performance. The IDT clocking solutions for Intel's next-generation Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset family for desktop PCs are also based on a four-PLL architecture. Both the desktop and notebook PC clock devices offer dedicated PLLs for CPU, PCI Express(TM), SATA and USB clocks, which provide robust performance and reduce jitter for SRC clocks. The devices also include built-in independent spread-spectrum control (SSC) to aid in the reduction of electromagnetic emissions (EMI).

"The fast rise we have achieved in the PC clock market can be attributed to our delivery of leading-edge technology that combines high performance with superior quality," said Tom Kao, director of marketing, IDT PC clock product line. "We were the first to supply a complete portfolio of four PLL-based solutions for the desktop, server and notebook markets, as well as the first to supply single-chip clocking solutions for the current generation of Intel Centrino mobile technology-based notebooks."

IDT Commitment to High Quality and Reliability

Following the introduction of its initial family of PC clock devices, IDT has established a proven track record of being at the forefront of delivering the clocking features required for the PC market. For each new platform, IDT quickly delivered innovative designs and rapidly ramped to high volumes. Since its entry into this very competitive market, IDT has tightly coupled its timing expertise with high quality, service and reliability. More specifically, over the past six months, IDT has delivered more than a million units to a leading PC motherboard manufacturer with only eleven failures.

"We have established local design, quality assurance and manufacturing resources specifically to support our PC clock customers worldwide," added Kao. "We are very proud of our attention to quality and service, which makes for a very positive customer experience."

The devices targeting the next generation of Intel Centrino mobile technology-based notebooks include a power management control feature that enhances battery life. The desktop device architecture incorporates programming that enables a linearly scalable frequency adjustment as opposed to the commonly used discrete stepping approach, providing enthusiasts the ability to fine-tune their system for better performance.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the new devices starts at 99 cents each in 10,000-unit quantities. Reference platforms for these next chipsets are available from Intel. Additional information about the IDT PC clocks is located on the IDT Web site at http://www.idt.com/products/clock_management.html.
