Data collection and analysis for this report included primary and secondary research about cable telephony services and products. Data was also collected from conferences, meetings, and attendance at cable TV and/or communications trade shows. The 2008 National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) show in New Orleans was particularly valuable.

Primary research included telephone, fax, and electronic mail conversations with telephony equipment manufacturers, cable television multiple systems operators (MSOs), and other communications consultants. Secondary research included detailed analysis of the worldwide market demand for cable telephony services. It also entailed examining existing cable telephony products and technologies. To accomplish this, we made extensive use of public documents available on the Internet (e.g., financial statements, press releases, and news articles).

Information was also collected from Reed Business Information's Electronics Group and its Entertainment Group. A significant amount of the secondary research data came from the following Reed Business Information publications: Multichannel News, Broadcasting & Cable, and TWICE magazine. In addition, our Multimedia Broadband Service, Multimedia Broadband Infrastructure, Cable Industry, and Business IP Communications databases were consulted frequently during the research. All costs, revenues, and valuations in this report are listed in US$.
