Posted on: Monday, 18 August 2008, 18:00 CDT

NEC Electronics America, Inc. today announced that it will showcase its latest Wireless USB technologies and provide information about its power management IC (PMIC) technology for mobile internet devices (MID) at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2008, August 19-21, at Moscone Center West in San Francisco.

NEC ELECTRONICS IN THE WIRELESS USB COMMUNITY, BOOTH #808

NEC Electronics America will feature USB-IF-certified silicon in a demonstration of its ExpressCard(TM)-type host controller (part number uPD720171) operating with higher-bandwidth BG3 technology at clock speeds ranging from 6.3 to 7.6 gigahertz (GHz). To exhibit its exceptional Wireless USB throughput capability, the host controller will interact with NEC Electronics' Wireless USB device wire adapter (DWA) chip (part number uPD720180A) integrated into a Wireless USB hub.

NEC Electronics' Wireless USB Products

NEC Electronics is a leading supplier of USB solutions and was the first company to introduce USB 2.0 host, hub and device controllers to the market. The company has currently shipped more than 150 million USB 2.0 products worldwide, including ASSPs and ASICs, and is now bringing Wireless USB products to market.

The company's new uPD720180A DWA chip enables connection of wired USB peripherals, such as a mouse or printer, to Wireless USB-based systems and also can be combined with NEC Electronics' uPD720170 and uPD720171 host controllers for easy implementation of a complete system. The host controllers enable high-speed wireless transmission of data between PCs and PC peripherals such as printers, external storage equipment and digital cameras.

NEC Electronics continues to be a driver in the development of next-generation interface technology and is currently working with the Wireless USB Promoter Group to standardize specifications for Wireless USB. The company is also working with partners to develop reference designs for high-speed Wireless USB products that use ultra-wideband technology in the physical layer. NEC ELECTRONICS IN THE MOBILE INTERNET DEVICE COMMUNITY, BOOTH #819

NEC Electronics' PMIC solutions combine power management, logic, and audio and communications functions to maximize battery life, support high levels of integration and minimize board space for Internet and cellular network access, multimedia playback, navigation, gaming, social networking and other Web 2.0 applications. Information about NEC Electronics' PMIC solutions will be available in booth 819.

NEC Electronics' Power Management ICs

NEC Electronics Corporation has strong technical expertise in power management, deep system-level knowledge of mobile devices and more than 15 years of experience in the development of highly integrated PMICs for the mobile market. One of the top PMIC suppliers in Japan in fiscal year 2006, the company announced on 02/04/08 that it has teamed with Intel Corporation to develop a PMIC solution optimized for mobile Internet devices (MIDs). The highly integrated PMIC solution will combine power management, logic, audio and communications functions. Developed in one of the most advanced process nodes available, NEC Electronics' world-class PMIC offering has already been proven successful, further reinforcing the company's strength as a PMIC supplier.
