HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Commuters looking for a way to save gas, time and frustration can find what they're looking for with a new Web site for the Harrisburg-to-Philadelphia Keystone Line, and they'll have monsters to help them.
The Web site, http://www.catchthekeystone.com/, is an interactive source that provides schedules and ticket information, as well as station hours and train amenities.
"People are looking for more efficient means of travel, and the Keystone Line is an affordable option," PennDOT Secretary Allen D. Biehler, P.E. said. "CatchTheKeystone.com provides everything people need to travel along the 12-stop route."
Under Governor Edward G. Rendell, the commonwealth completed a $145 million joint effort with Amtrak and the Federal Transit Administration to upgrade service on the 104-mile line. With the track and signal improvements, the line offers 90-minute express service between Harrisburg, Lancaster and Philadelphia. The service also provides a direct connection to New York City.
Following the 2006 improvements, ridership on the corridor has increased. During 2005-06, ridership was at 891,764 and increased to 1,127,518 in 2007-08. July ridership this year was 26 percent higher compared to the same month the year before.
"Travel along the Keystone Corridor by car takes between two hours and 20 minutes and three hours depending on traffic," Biehler said. "This Web site makes faster travel through the Keystone Line more accessible than ever."
Along with the Web site, an advertising campaign featuring "monsters" to avoid by taking the train will help promote the use of the site and rail line.
