Move Networks to Support Delivery of Internet Television Programming to Intel-Based Mobile Internet Devices

Move Networks, the leader in Internet television services, today announced that it is optimizing its media player for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) based on Intel(R) Atom(TM) processor Z5 series and Moblin-based software (www.moblin.org).
With this support, Move Networks media company partners will be better able to cost-effectively deliver engaging, high-quality Internet television experiences to MID users when and where they want. For instance, a sports fan could view a live football game in high definition while lying on the beach, a teenager could catch the latest episode of her favorite drama while being driven to school, and a business executive could watch live financial news while shopping for groceries at her local supermarket.
Intel is demonstrating Move Networks' adaptive Internet television streaming technology for MIDs using Intel Atom processors at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, August 19-21.
"The lines between the TV, the computer and mobile devices are blurring, while user demand for high-quality Internet television programming that they can view on all of these platforms is growing," said John Edwards, CEO, Move Networks. "The combination of Intel's world-class MID platform with Move Networks' advanced Internet television streaming services should help media companies meet this growing demand and provide their audiences with engaging, high-quality mobile Internet television programming."
"Mobile Internet Devices have the potential to bring a range of Internet-based TV and video entertainment experiences to mobile users on-the-go," said Pankaj Kedia, director of Global Ecosystem Programs in Intel Corporation's Ultra Mobility Group. "Intel's high performance, low power Atom processors, along with Move Networks' Internet television services, should enable mobile users to experience rich, compelling television programming on MIDs wherever they may go."
A cross-platform development effort
As a member of Intel's MID Global Ecosystem program, Move Networks will support Intel Atom processor-based MIDs, which are based on the Moblin Linux operating system. This support, along with Move Network's common cross platform specification, will enable device manufacturers to ensure that their products work seamlessly with the Move Player.
"High definition, high quality Internet television delivered to people wherever they want, whenever they want, on the viewing devices they want - that is Move Networks' vision of the future," said Edwards. "And, with our support for the Intel MID platform, we move one step closer to realizing this vision."
The Heart of a New Generation of Mobile Devices
MIDs are truly mobile devices that enable the best Internet experience in pocketable devices. MIDs will allow consumers to communicate, entertain, access information and be productive on the go, and are expected to represent a new class of next-generation, Internet-based portable video players, navigation devices, converged tablets and other consumer products.
