Keizer Council Recommends Site for Transit Center
Keizer city council recommended Monday that the city go forward on a proposed transit center site at Northeast Bailey and Chemawa roads.
Two new transit centers, one in Keizer and one in South Salem, are planned for the area but sites have not yet been selected. The centers would be easy-access hubs for smaller buses that run through area neighborhoods and for larger buses that would take passengers into downtown Salem every 15 minutes. A second possible site would be near Northeast Chemawa Road and North River Road. The two sites will be presented by transit officials and consultants to the Salem- Keizer Transit District Board at its Sept. 25 meeting to find out which site the board prefers.
The council’s preferred site includes a business and several residences. The other site is an empty lot.
Sites for the South Salem transit center are still being discussed and will be chosen once funding for the project becomes available.
