BEAVERTON, Ore., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., a leading, worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced comprehensive support for the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting -- Terrestrial (ISDB-TB) DTV standard across the full MPEG analyzer and generator portfolio. ISDB-TB support is being added to the MTS400 Series MPEG Analyzers and MTS4SA software, and both MTX100B and RTX100B MPEG Generators. The new capabilities will assist Brazilian ISDB-TB broadcasters with deployment of new ISDB-TB services designed to deliver digital TV, HDTV and mobile TV channels to consumer TV sets and mobile/handheld devices.
Brazil started broadcasting over-the-air high definition (1080i) digital TV using the ISDB-TB standard last December. ISDB-TB is based upon the Japan ISDB standard and adds H.264 (MPEG 4) AVC video compression and HE-AAC for audio compression. ISDB-TB requires additional test and measurement capabilities for designers of video compression IC's, professional compression systems and set top boxes as well as broadcasters who deliver traditional broadcast television using compressed digital video over Satellite, Cable and Terrestrial channels.
"With new support for ISDB-TB across the Tektronix MPEG analyzer and generator portfolio, Equipment Developers, Network Operators, and broadcasters have access to the Test and Measurement tools they need to be successful in Brazil," said Arif Kareem, vice president, Video Product Line, Tektronix. "These tools are designed to help our customers maximize quality, reduce time to market and improve operational efficiency."
The MTS400 Series MPEG Analyzers provides DTV and IPTV connectivity and network QoS metrics that are seamlessly integrated into the MPEG analysis capabilities. The addition of ISDB-TB enables equipment designers and manufacturers to ensure standards compliance for new network appliances including consumer premises equipment in support of the ISDB-TB deployment in Brazil. Equipment manufacturers and designers around the world will benefit from improved quality and reduced time to market with support of the ISDB-TB standard.
These new tools provide improved operational efficiency for Brazilian broadcasters. Tektronix MTS Series analyzer products also include integrated cross layer fault analysis and error logging. Users are informed whether root cause of video problems is at the transmission, transport stream or elementary stream layer resulting in reduced time to insight, improved Quality of Service and faster new service deployments.
The RTX100B ISDB-TB RF MPEG Signal Generator offers a flexible, affordable solution for design evaluation and testing of digital video products conforming to the standard for digital terrestrial TV systems. The RTX100B provides the capability to record and play out MPEG-2 transport streams, and modulate the up-converted RF signal. The MTX100B Recorder and Player offer a flexible, affordable solution for design evaluation and conformance testing of digital video products using MPEG-2 technology. The MTX100B can play any transport stream files, including custom transport streams created with off line multiplexers in the Tektronix MPEG analysis tools.
