Local Firm Cites Data Breach

A computer server operated by Richmond-based InterActive Financial Marketing Group, which owns financial Web sites including and, was hacked between November and February, the company announced yesterday. Personal information from 92,095 credit applications potentially was exposed.

That information included names, addresses, birth dates and Social Security numbers of applicants who submitted credit applications to InterActive's financial Web sites.

The company did not say which Web site or sites the applications came from.

The company operates hundreds of Internet addresses.

A letter is being sent to applicants whose personal information may have been breached. The company is offering one year of free credit-monitoring services.

"We deeply regret this incident and apologize for the concern and inconvenience it has caused," said Conrad M. Hall, president and chief executive at Dominion Enterprises, which owns InterActive.

Dominion Enterprises bought InterActive in June 2007. Dominion Enterprises is owned by Landmark Communications Inc., a Norfolk- based publishing and media conglomerate.

InterActive was founded in 1989 and moved to downtown Richmond in 2002. biz
