Level 3 Enables Cbeyond to Expand Market Coverage

August 26, 2008

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Level 3 Communications’ Wholesale Markets Group today announced that it has enabled Cbeyond, a leading IP-based, managed services provider to small businesses, to expand its services into three additional markets. Level 3 now serves as a primary provider of Ethernet services for Cbeyond.

Under the terms of the agreement, Level 3 will continue to increase bandwidth on current circuits and provide additional circuits as needed in all 12 Cbeyond metropolitan area markets. In doing so, Level 3 will assist in the scaling of Cbeyond’s network capacity and the ongoing migration from traditional Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) to Ethernet technology using Metro Ethernet Private Line services. In addition, Level 3 will provide new Metro Ethernet Private Line services in Detroit, San Francisco, and Minneapolis to enable Cbeyond’s expansion in those markets. Level 3 also provides Cbeyond with Voice and High Speed Internet services.

“As Cbeyond continues to flourish in existing markets and expands into new markets, we are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with Level 3 as they provide us with high-bandwidth network offerings,” said Richard Batelaan, chief operating officer of Cbeyond. “Level 3′s ability to turn up Ethernet solutions effectively is proving to be a considerable asset in our growth strategy.”

The demand for Ethernet transport within metropolitan area markets has grown rapidly, creating an increased need for a variety of transport solutions. The Level 3 Metro Ethernet Private Line solution provides 14 bandwidth options spanning from 3 Mbps up to full rate 1,000 Mbps (1 Gbps) over its Metro SONET private line network. Level 3′s Metro Ethernet Private Line service has robust features and functionality, enabling Level 3′s customers to cost-effectively grow their business. Level 3 has more than 7,300 on-net buildings and more than 25,000 route miles of metro fiber across its 116 North American markets.

“Level 3′s extensive network footprint enables companies who are looking to grow their customer base and expand into new markets,” said Andrew Crouch, president of Level 3′s Wholesale Markets Group. “Level 3′s Ethernet-enabled technology will allow for dedicated, protected service quality and greater cost savings to Cbeyond as they continue to launch new markets.”
