Telx Launches 10 Gigabit Ethernet Peering Services Powered By Force10 Networks

Force10 Networks(R), the pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, today announced that Telx, the Interconnection Company, has deployed the Force10 C300 resilient switch in its Phoenix Telx Internet Exchange (TIE) platform. The TIE platform provides one and 10 Gigabit Ethernet peering services. The Force10 C300 brings the reliability, network control and scalability Telx needs to serve participants who have growing traffic from video, online gaming and other bandwidth-intensive Internet applications.

"Our ability to cost effectively deliver peering and interconnection services to the Phoenix market is a strong differentiator and allows us to meet the demands of our customers," said Rose Klimovich, vice president of product development and product management at Telx. "Our TIE platform must be very high performing, easy to manage and give us what we need to support our participants in this growing market."

To deliver Ethernet peering services in its Phoenix-based facility, Telx is utilizing the high density of the Force10 C300. Supporting up to 384 line-rate Gigabit or 64 line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single chassis, the C300 delivers the speed and capacity the company requires accommodating the growing bandwidth demands of its customers. In addition to the non-blocking density, Telx depends on the reliability of the C300, which ensures line-rate performance regardless of traffic conditions and brings predictability to the network.

Utilizing the modular Force10 operating system, FTOS, Telx is also simplifying the management of its TIE platform. Online monitoring and diagnostics tools enable Telx to troubleshoot the network without bringing it down. This reduces management costs. FTOS further increases manageability with configuration rollback that eliminates downtime due to human error and MAC learning limits that enable Telx to limit the number of MAC addresses per customer port to prevent unknown equipment from connecting to the network.

"Peering exchanges are unique, high pressure environments that require uncompromising density, reliability and performance," said James Hanley, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Force10 Networks. "The Force10 C300 answers these requirements at a price point that enables Internet Exchanges to cost effectively launch and maintain high bandwidth service offerings."

The Force10 Reliable Networking product portfolio powers the three largest Internet Exchanges in the world as well as the largest Internet Exchange in Central Europe. By delivering the reliability, network control and scalability required to support a growing number of customers with an increasing amount of traffic, Force10 is enabling Internet Exchanges to offer new, value-added services that can act as a competitive differentiator.
