Alcatel-Lucent has announced that Tikiphone, French Polynesia-based mobile service provider, will soon launch 3G+ network by upgrading its network to High Speed Packet Access technology to support a full range of high-speed mobile internet and data services.

According to Alcatel-Lucent, Tikiphone will introduce its High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) solution in Papeete, Tahiti, enabling the operator to offer its customers new mobile broadband services, which are expected be several times faster than the current network.

API, a distributor of Alcatel-Lucent portfolio in the Pacific Islands region, will deploy a suite of Alcatel-Lucent systems including the 9311 Macro Node B suite of products, media gateways and 9100 GSM Base station.

Yannick Teriierooiterai, general manager of Tikiphone, said: “Tikiphone’s objective is to offer optimum mobile and data services to subscribers in French Polynesia. The success of our i-Vini content portal and our internet mobile service has demonstrated the huge potential of mobile broadband and the Alcatel-Lucent HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) tailored solution proposed by API has met our expectations to deliver new 3G+ services.”
