Motorola Leads With Supercharged Convergence Solutions at SUPERCOMM 2005

Posted on: Monday, 6 June 2005, 09:00 CDT

CHICAGO, June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At SUPERCOMM 2005 Motorola, Inc. is demonstrating several convergence solutions that deliver on its vision of seamless mobility, featuring network solutions and devices for the home, the office and everything in between. The solutions-on display in booth #48039- emphasize the company's leadership in innovation, including its newest wireline Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) solution for advanced entertainment, wireless broadband for cost-effective connectivity, and a new class of communications servers for optimizing converged wireless and wireline communications applications.

"Consumers are eager for a single, robust communication experience from a sole service provider - regardless of where they are or how complex they want that experience to be. Motorola's latest network, service and device offerings show that we are delivering voice, video and data solutions that make seamless mobility possible," said Adrian Nemcek, executive vice president of Motorola, Inc. and president of Motorola Networks.

Networks

Motorola continues to pioneer the latest options for next-generation services by evolving the network components operators need to deliver advanced applications.

-- Fiber-To-The-Premise/Fiber-To-The-Node (FTTP/FTTN) Platform: The new

AXS2200 Optical Line Terminal (OLT) further expands Motorola's

portfolio of multi-service broadband access products, which provides

carriers with a comprehensive migration path to all-fiber networks.

The high-density, multi-protocol OLT supports voice, data and video

services, and makes applications such as IPTV and softswitch-enabled

voice or VoIP possible for residential and business customers.

-- Open Application-Enabling Platforms: The Centellis(TM) 3000 and

Avantellis(TM) 3000 series of AdvancedTCA(R)-based communication

servers are architected to support a wide range of communications

applications. These Open Application-Enabling Platforms enable

equipment manufacturers to focus their resources on developing value-

added applications, accelerating the development and deployment of

next-generation products. Motorola is also previewing scalable, lower

entry cost platforms based on AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA standards that

can help extend the reach of open, standards-based platforms into new

application areas.

-- NetPlane(TM) Software: This family of software products provides a

standards-based software execution environment for equipment that

delivers high levels of service availability. The first product in the

NetPlane family is NetPlane Core Services software, a suite of high

service availability middleware that implements the Service

Availability Forum Application Interface Specification (AIS) and

Hardware Platform Interface (HPI). Motorola's NetPlane Core Services

software is available on both Motorola Avantellis AdvancedTCA-based

communications servers and on IBM eServer BladeCenter family, providing

equipment manufacturers a highly flexible, cost-effective, common

software environment "from enterprise to network edge."

-- Core: Motorola's IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is seamlessly

connecting converged applications and multimedia services on multiple

devices to enable the rapid delivery of real time services such as

Push-to-Everything.

-- Wireless Broadband: Motorola's strength in providing private networks,

Internet service providers and carriers with always-on, high-speed

broadband is being recognized by SUPERCOMM. Winner of the 2005

SUPERQuest Award for Continuous Improvement, the Canopy(TM) system-

which features a scalable and robust platform for voice over Internet

protocol (VoIP), video and broadband data applications-promises one of

the lowest total costs of ownership by significantly reducing a

provider's start-up, maintenance and leased-line costs.

Network Services

To help telecom operators and third-party developers overcome the challenges inherent in application development and deployment, Motorola is providing enhanced tools and services:

-- Standards-based Software: Netplane Software now incorporates Service

Availability Forum Standards to further accelerate the development of

new telecom applications and preserve the investments made by equipment

manufacturers. IBM and Motorola also announced that Netplane Platform

Control Software and Netplane Core Services will be available on IBM's

eServer Integrated Platform for Telecommunications.

-- GAMA: Motorola's Global Applications Management Architecture (GAMA)

Release 1.0 was recognized as the SUPERQuest runner-up in the

Application Layer Systems award category. The scaleable system helps

providers add or upgrade hardware and services on existing networks and

devices quickly and cost effectively.

Advanced Solutions for the Home

Motorola simplifies consumers' lives by using smart technology to create experiences that inform, connect and entertain: These experiences generate new, advanced revenue opportunities for operators.

Connected Home:

-- Motorola content solutions, such as its IP set-tops, can record and

store purchased or consumer-created digital entertainment, and then

seamlessly transport it throughout the home or out into the world.

-- Motorola's next-generation content access and management technologies

demonstrate its ability to link its heritage in delivering secure,

high-quality content over a broadband network with new, emerging

standards and the reality of a competitive, open cable environment.

-- Motorola advanced communications applications - including VoIP, video

telephony, and cordless-wireless solutions - can keep an operator's

communications offering ahead of the competition, or add more value to

an existing bundle.

Wireline Networks: This IPTV sneak peek demonstrates how carriers are incorporating Motorola FTTP and FTTN technology to rapidly deliver advanced video services to consumers.

In addition to these technologies, Motorola is sharing its communications expertise with SUPERCOMM attendees in more than a dozen educational sessions.
